About Eddies Kids
Eddies Kids is a registered 501c charity that provides sporting event tickets to deserving children, teachers and military servicemen and women. 100 percent of every dollar we receive goes toward a ticket for every deserving recipient. Since 1991 recipients have received over 500,000 tickets to Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Rapids, Mammoth and the Los Angeles Kings games. Recently kids also began attending the National Western Stock Show.
Most kids receive a ticket as a reward for academic achievement through charities like The Red Cross, YMCA and the Make A Wish Foundation, just to name a few. Thanks to the generosity of Kroenke Sports, the Los Angeles Kings, and your donations the kids receive exceptional tickets and a night they will never forget.
Eddie grew up understanding the importance of family. His grandmother was a full time foster parent adopting several children as her own. When Eddie couldn’t afford a truck for his new deliveryman job, his grandmother gave him the money. “Nothing is more important than family” she said. She left a giving nature in his heart that has followed him to this day.
In 1991 Tim Lieweke (Executive VP of the Denver Nuggets) and legendary NBA trainer “Chopper” Travaglini decided they wanted to assist underprivileged kids. They approached businessman Eddie Wedelstedt offering to match any donations he made. What started as a gracious gesture has resulted in over 500,000 tickets to major sporting events.
Why sports? “Because sporting events are exciting and there is nothing like the thrill and exhilaration of a kid’s first professional game. Children deserve rewards and giving them tickets to a game is one way of showing appreciation for their hard work” Eddie says. Not only is it a chance to witness a spectacular display of professional sports, but, more importantly, the chance to spend time with family.
Norman E. Moon of the Denver Juvenile Community Assessment Center agreed with our philosophy stating that “The games provide a positive and safe setting for the kids. These tickets give us the opportunity to build relationships with young people and their families.”. Teachers, sociologists and child psychiatrists agree that rewarding a child helps make them a healthy, productive and successful individual.
A Message From Eddie Wedelstedt
Thank you so much for taking time to visit Eddies Kids. It means so much to see children rewarded for their hard work. According to the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement; most small children spend only 42 minutes per day alone with their fathers while they spend 5.6 hours in daycare. Most parents only get to see their kids three to six hours per week. More than half of children today live in homes where both parents are working, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Roughly 44.5 % are being raised by only one parent.
That’s why it’s crucial to give kids the attention and encouragement they need to grow, thrive and become productive, creative and healthy members of society. That is why I started Eddie’s Kids Charitable Foundation – to bring joy to our children and help bring their families closer together. I am overwhelmed every time I walk into an arena and see a hundred kids and their families sitting beneath our banner, cheering and laughing.
Thank you for your support.
